Why I Believe In Holistic Or Alternative Medicine

Alternative medicine or health using more natural means can help you live a better life. Modern medicine, and the drugs they prescribe, deal with symptoms, but do not heal people of their diseases.

In this country we are used to the typical practice of doctors, who examine the patient, makes an evaluation, with or without tests, and then takes the findings to determine which prescription drug to give the patient, or which surgery is needed. The patient gives his or her history and tries to explain what is wrong, but other than that, the doctor is complete charge.

Disagreeing with your doctor seldom happens. What is wrong with getting another opinion. Your health does not seem to be the doctors top concern, A doctors office sometimes looks like an assembly line. How many patients can we run through today?

The holistic health practitioner is totally different, in that the concern and involvement of the patient is much more important. Holistic doctors see themselves as educators, teaching people how they can heal their own body, since the body is capable of doing the healing without the need of outside influences.

The reason why so many people are against holistic health, is that the patient is required to be involved, and usually must make lifestyle changes, removing bad habits, such as unhealthy eating or drinking habits. Why is it that most people would rather take a pill than take control of their life, and… Read the rest

We often undermine the importance of eyeglass lenses in the making of spectacles. Sometimes these distributors can understand the physical aspect of the painful and irritating exercise of wearing glasses, however in several cases they do not and it is up to you to ask for the right person about the problem. In such cases, you may want to consult a doctor before jumping to any conclusion whatsoever. Remember the essence of lens selection is to get the right material for right reasons and for the right people. You may also need to decide on what type of lenses you want as it is as per the powers in question.

There are some brands that are known to us from the word go. There are others which don’t fit the description discussed above. In such a scenario, you may want to stick to the branded ones, as they are surer of quality and can last longer with warranty. You may also want to use strong eyeglass lenses made of glass instead of plastic because the plastic. Either way or may you choose with care.

Chiropractic Therapy and Craniosacral Therapy – Alternatives for Fibromyalgia Patients

There is a plethora of alternative therapies for Fibromyalgia.  Each FM patient is unique in so many ways.  We all vary in our degrees of pain, where we hurt most, what medications work, what therapies work, what over-lapping conditions we might have…the list goes on forever!  It is important to know what is available to us and educate ourselves in order to better our quality of life and help manage our pain.

The idea of Integrative Medicine was developed to help medical and other health professionals to expand their practices by and integrating accessible, effective Complementary/Alternative Medicine (CAM) protocols for the treatment of their patients. This would bring patients more complete care and give them all the help that is available to improve their overall health.  I will be focusing on Chiropractic Therapy and Craniosacral Therapy in this article.

The word “chiropractic” combines the Greek words cheir (hand) and praxis (action) and means “done by hand.”  Chiropractic treatment for Fibromyalgia fuses the aspects of the body, mind and spirit.  A Chiropractor deals particularly with the muscular, nervous, and skeletal systems (muscles, joints, bones & connective tissues), focusing in the region of the spine. To know if chiropractic therapy will work for you it is a good idea to get regular treatments for at least a 6-8 weeks before determining if it provides relief of your FM symptoms.

Chiropractors have found that interference with Neuromusculoskeletal Systems impairs normal bodily functions, lowering… Read the rest

Alternative Medicine for Treating Cancer

Cancer is the name given to any illness resulting from one of our body’s own cells growing out of control. There are many processes that control a cell’s growth and division, each of which can go wrong. Several of these control mechanisms need to be damaged before a cell becomes cancerous. There are more than 200 different types of cancers, which are categorized in to carcinoma, sarcoma, lymphoma and leukemia based on the cells from which they arise.

The principles involved in treating cancer are either directly destroying the cancer tissues or indirectly destroying them by depriving them of blood supply and/or their nutrition. But the irony is that whatever conventional treatment is used to destroy cancer cells do affect to some extent the normal cells also. They may damage the skin, liver, intestine the bone marrow and other rapidly multiplying cells. Sometimes the effect of the treatment is more devastating than the disease itself.

Role of Alternative Medicine in treating cancer

A larger study of Alternative medicine use in patients with different types of cancer was published in the July 2000 issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology. It was found that nearly 70% of the patients used at least one form alternative medicine along with the conventional treatment. The National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) are sponsoring a number of clinical trials at medical centers to evaluate alternative medical therapies for cancer.… Read the rest
